Morrison (pictured left) was an apprentice to his grandfather Sir Frank Newson-Smith who was master spectacle maker 1947-1949 and was admitted to the livery in 1962.

At the same meeting, David Hewlett (also pictured), chief executive of the Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians, was admitted to the livery. Hewlett commented: 'Since moving into the optics profession someHewlett--Spectacle-Makers.jpg 18 months ago, I have never failed to be impressed by the skills, professionalism, generosity and humanity of spirit, of all parts of the profession.

Nowhere are these qualities more enshrined and demonstated than in this worshipful and ancient company which has done so much to promote them, and I am very sensible of the honour you bestow in extending your fellowship to me today.'
