Local optical committees now have a Central Support Unit following the completion of its board of directors by the appointment of Alan Tinger as chairman and the employment of Georgina Gordon as head of unit.

Local optical committees now have a Central Support Unit following the completion of its board of directors by the appointment of Alan Tinger as chairman and the employment of Georgina Gordon as head of unit.

Funding for the unit will be through the LOCs via the statutory levy on NHS sight tests in England and Wales. The unit said it intended to deliver in both 'practical and tangible terms' for LOCs and comprises two full-time staff members and 12 part-time staff. Its corporate strategy, which it claims will give LOC members better access to opportunities to provide enhanced services, will be rolled out to LOCs after its launch at the National Optometric Conference on November 20-21.
