Andrew Lansley, secretary of state for health, has confirmed there are no plans to amend regulations to make the provision of pupillary distance a requirement following an eye examination. The statement was made in a letter to dispensing optician Anil Gupta from Essex who had written to the minister.
Bausch+Lomb has announced it is spending €70m on the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Waterford, Ireland. The company claimed the investment would help safeguard employment levels, according to the website RTE.ie. The contact lens plant has a workforce of 1,100.
According to a study published in the April edition of the journal Archives of Ophthalmology, drinking milk could help prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Examining data on 1,313 women, researchers observed that among women younger than 75, intake of vitamin D from foods and supplements was related to decreased odds of early AMD.
