Retailer Next has stopped selling prescription eyewear in its directory but continues to sell ready-readers and a range of designer sunglasses.

In 2005 Optician reported that the Next Directory, which has around two million active users, had started selling single-vision spectacles at prices starting at £39.99 for full frame styles with scratch-resistant lenses (July 22 2005).

The range also included supras, plastic, metal and rimless styles with a number of lens options and powers between -5.00D and +5.00D with cyls up to 2.00D.

This year's spring/summer directory included men's and women's ready-readers and three pages of sunglasses.

The company pointed out that while it is not necessary for customers to contact their optician to wear ready-readers, they are recommended to have a check up every two years.
