Irenie EkkeshisFight for Sight supporter and contact lens safety campaigner Irenie Ekkeshis has received the Shelia McKechnie Foundation award for her ‘No Water’ campaign.

She was presented with the award during a ceremony at the House of Lords last week.

The former contact lens wearer has been campaigning to raise awareness of Acanthamoeba keratitis after being diagnosed with the condition in 2011. Ekkeshis has undergone two corneal transplants in the past four years, lost the sight in one eye, suffered scleritis and nearly lost an eye to the disease.

She designed the No Water graphic, intended to highlight the risk of non-sterile water for lens wearers on contact lens packaging, in a campaign assisted by the British Contact Lens Association when it produced its own No Water stickers last year.
