Sight loss campaigner Irenie Ekkeshis scoops Vision Pioneer prize

Sight loss campaigner Irenie Ekkeshis won Campaign of the Year at the Vision Pioneer awards this week for her ‘No Water’ initiative.

The campaign highlighted the risk of wearers using non-sterile water to clean contact lenses.

Judges at London's Grange Tower Bridge Hotel acknowledged the impact of the initiative, which saw the BCLA produce its own ‘No Water’ stickers for use on lens packaging. The practice was adopted in a number of other countries and contact lens manufacturer Clearlab adopted the label for its CL packaging in the UK.

Other shortlisted campaigns included Eye Heroes, Blind Veterans UK’s ‘No One Alone’ and Guide Dogs’ Pavement Parking.
