Norville adds access to ophthalmology data

The practice partnered with Blueworks to improve data management

Norville Independent Eyecare has partnered with Blueworks Ophthalmic Imaging Management Solutions to access patient’s ophthalmology data quickly and securely.

Optometrists at the Cheltenham-based practice can access medical data, images and patient history as soon as hospital ophthalmology exams have been performed.

The practice said the partnership would significantly improve patient management as referrals were made easier by providing more information to optometrists.

Aisling O’Donovan, optometrist and partner, said: ‘The clinical decisions we make are based on the best available information which decreases error probability and increases both clinician and patient safety.’

The Blueworks platform links data from several devices to a centralised database that practitioners can access to view statistics and information about patients.

Norville Independent Eyecare piloted Blueworks’ platform in March, 2022 and a countrywide rollout to other optical practices has taken place.

The project was supported by Alvaro Borges, chair of Gloucestershire LOC; Scott Vallance, ophthalmic imaging and data quality manager at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHSFT; and Gloucestershire CCG/ICS leads, Kerry O'Hara and Megan Terrett.
