Obituary - Barry Appleson

Dispensing optician Barry Appleson died on December 18, aged 70, after a short illness.

Mr Appleson first set up an optical workshop to supply practices in Leeds with a prescription service, before entering into partnership with a local optometrist. After working in practice for more than 40 years, he took semi-retirement, continuing to do domiciliary work. sisters on trek for charity Optical sales assistant Lesley Travers, who works at Dollond & Aitchison in Eastleigh, Hampshire, is taking part in a charity trek across Peru in September. Ms Travers (left), who will be accompanied by her sister Sue Tizard on the five-day 100km trek, says they are hoping to raise &\#163;2,500 each for cerebral palsy charity Scope. 'The coming year will be dedicated to getting ourselves fit for the challenge of a lifetime,' says Ms Travers.
