Obituary Ð Douglas Goodall

u Former Norville sales director Douglas (Doug) Ernest Goodall has died aged 84. Mr Goodall, a trained teacher, was commissioned into RAF service in India during World War II. While overseas, his fatherÕs instrument business in Farringdon Road, London

The prospects of returning to post-war teaching then held little joy for Goodall and with the help of a family friend, George Purdom, he secured a job as a traveller for Archers, a frame and prescription supply firm. He became well known and respected in optics, with many of his practitioner clients becoming his close friends.
He worked at Birch Stigmat and Norville until his retirement as sales director in 1990.
Mr Goodall was a Freeman of the City of London and the Spectacle Makers Livery. He leaves a daughter Lynette, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
