Optometrist passes away, aged 63

Colleagues have reported with sadness the sudden passing of optometrist Graham Khan, aged 63.

A statement sent to Optician by colleagues Stephen Cohen, Peter Cowen, Ian Creek, Ian Clyne, Pam Ernest, Robert Glass, David and Rhona Goldberg, Michael Greenberg, Karen Heeney, Shully Josephs, Natalie Morhaim, Michael and Amanda Prais, Benji Silverman, said:

‘Graham was very well known, liked and respected in optical circles. After graduating from UMIST circa 1976 he worked at George Davis Opticians where he became a director and a pre-registration trainer before becoming MD at Vision Express during the 1990s. After leaving Vision Express, Graham and business partner Pam Ernest opened their own practice ‘Optimum Eyecare’ in Preston. Pam remembered Graham best quoting “the one special thing about working with Graham, was that he made it his mission to make every patient smile or preferably laugh - he didn't give up until he managed it”. After selling the practice, Graham worked as a locum optometrist throughout the Northwest.

‘Graham was a keen sportsman – he left many scars on his fellow 5-a-side football friends! Later in life, he became a dedicated cyclist, raising large amounts of money for charity. On a recent sponsored cycle ride from Manchester to Blackpool, on arriving at the destination, he decided to cycle all the way back again. One of his impressed sponsors even doubled his donation.’

‘Graham is survived by his mother, brother, wife, three children and grandchildren. There was a huge number of his family and friends at his funeral paying their respects to a wonderful and unforgettable man. His patients, friends and colleagues will miss his professionalism, endearing smile, charm and great sense of humour. All his colleagues regarded Graham as a dear friend. The world is indeed a sadder place without Graham.’
