Patricia Gilbert passed away suddenly but peacefully on May 7 aged 61.
She was the co-author of Association of British Dispensing Opticians publication Ophthalmic Lenses Availability and was well known in the optical profession, having worked for Carl Zeiss Vision's customer services department for over 12 years. It was there she met and later married dispensing optician and ophthalmic lens consultant Phil Gilbert.
She continued to be associated with the industry and wider profession through attendance at exhibitions, CET events and practice visits with husband Phil – who said the vast number of industry and professional contacts knew her for infectious personality. Phil is a committee member for British Standards and Pat also travelled abroad regularly with her husband and was well known by many other members on committees for international standards.
