Dispensing optician Ronald Makins, who practised in London and the south of England, died on July 18 aged 80.
Mr Makins began his career in optics on leaving the army at the end of the Second World War. His first position was with Hawes Opticians in Woking, Surrey, where he remained for many years. He later joined RW Bradshaw Opticians in Harrow, north London, where he went on to become practice manager and co-director of the group. Mr Hawes worked for the RW Bradshaw group until he bought his own practice, JE Bould, in Bournemouth, Dorset, where he continued to practise until his retirement.
