Optometrist Stuart Docherty passed away last month after a short illness.

He started his optical career early, working for Lizars Greenock when he was still attending school, before qualifying as a DO in 1980 and proceeding into optometry five years later.

Docherty then worked for D&A for several years as a locum travelling throughout the UK, and was latterly working for Vision Express. He retired from optics due to ill health.

Friend and fellow optometrist Jonathan Cawley described him as ‘a likeable fun-loving character who was known for his great sense of humour, quick wit and general 'joie de vivre'.’

Outside of optometry, Docherty had a passion for travel, music and good cuisine.

‘Recently Stuart was diagnosed with lung cancer, suddenly dying before treatment could commence. This tragic loss will be felt by all who knew him, he leaves behind his loving wife Anne who was his childhood sweetheart,’ added Cawley.
