Practice software developer Ocuco has acquired the optical business of Acumenex, a provider of ecommerce solutions to chains, insurers and independent ECPs in the USA and Canada.

Ocuco said the acquisition was part of its global omni-channel strategy for its independent and multiple customers around the world. The company will add Acumenex’s webstore and supply chain integration capabilities to its own solutions and integrate them to its current PoS, practice management and e-scheduler products. Ocuco said these functions would allow its customers offer a seamlessly integrated online and off-line experience to their patients.

‘We believe that all optical practitioners will have to offer omni-channel services such as online access to appointments and purchasing and replenishment to their customers,’ said Ocuco CEO Leo MacCanna.

‘Integration with the practice management system will be a key part of making this work and keeping track of the client’s overall relationship with the practice.’

No redundancies were forecast and service will continue to be provided to Acumenex customers under the Ocuco banner. Two members of Acumenex staff will join Ocuco’s team of 190 people, which supplies software to over 8,000 clients in 39 countries.
