Designed to meet the Directorate of Optometric Continuing Education and Training's specification, the presentations include low vision, nutrition and the eye, glaucoma management and treatment, silicone hydrogel contact lens wear, anterior segment disease management and new approaches to the treatment of macular degeneration. David Ruston, OEL's managing director, said: 'It is a great honour to be entrusted with the job of mounting courses on behalf of DOCET throughout the country. The brief was to deliver quality courses concentrating on firstly the anterior segment and secondly the ageing eye. 'We have worked closely with highly regarded academics and clinicians to ensure that we are able to give delegates absolutely up-to-the-minute guidance on the exciting new directions in treatment that have recently become available in such conditions as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.' He said that by using interactive case-history style presentations the series would illustrate the diversity of anterior segment disease and its management. In 2001 the course will visit four cities and will be staged in five cities in the spring of next year. 'It is the first time that we have taken a course to so many parts of the UK and the first time we have mounted a course in Northern Ireland,' said Mr Ruston. 'We are sure we will be able to give delegates a highly stimulating day of quality CE.' The day-long countrywide course starts in Bristol on June 6, moves to Birmingham the next day and then into central London on Sunday June 10. Belfast is the final venue in 2001 on June 11. In spring 2002 the venues will be Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Cambridge and Swansea. The cost is &\#163;193.87 (including VAT) and bookings can be made at www.optometrist.co.uk.
