The Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) met with Stephen Kinnock MP at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and officials from DHSC and NHS England.
OFNC and the Minister partook in a discussion of the contribution primary eye care made to the nation and how it should form a key part of the government’s 10-year health plan.
OFNC said it would continue to engage with the Minister and officials ahead of the multi-year funding review in Spring 2025.
As Paul Carroll, OFNC chair, explained, OFNC underscored the sector’s willingness to do more, but emphasised that this had to be underpinned ‘by the rebalance of investment and decision-making away from secondary care and towards primary care.’
Kinnock noted: ‘It was good to meet with the OFNC to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the sector and I look forward to working with them going forward as we build a health service fit for the future.’
