Optometrist Dharshana Chauhan has spent a fortnight in a team of four optometrists volunteering for Vision Aid Overseas in Zambia.

It was the second time she had worked on an outreach programme, having travelled to Gambia two years ago.

The team saw 500 patients and screened pupils at three local schools, while Chauhan’s employer Specsavers has now raised £250,000 to improve eye care in Zambia.

Matt Stewart, store director at Specsavers Bedford, said: ‘We are very proud of Dharshana and the work that she does for Vision Aid Overseas. Without volunteers like Dharshana the people of Zambia would not get the vital eye care that they need.’
