Five optometrists and their colleagues will simultaneously skydive for charity this summer.

Cambridge practitioner and International Centre for Eye care Education (ICEE) representative Ruhan Du Plooy - pictured here helping elderly patients in Burkino Faso - has organised the July event with fellow Cambridgeshire optometrists Leon Bouwer, Labhoise McGraine, Nimesh Pancholi, and Claire Whibley. In total 17 people will make the tandem jump on July 3 at the North London Parachute Centre - including two technicians from Essilor, Seehra Harminder and Paul Willis - though more daredevils are welcome, Du Plooy told optician. 'I've secured 17 places with the parachute club, and they're filling up for that day,' he said. 'But I would be more than happy to try and get more people involved if they show an interest.' ICEE promotes improved eye care in many countries including South Africa, Tanzania, India, Cambodia, Tonga, Samoa and Australia's aboriginal communities.
