Ophthalmology department advises residents to have regular eye examinations

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust prepares for NEHW

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s (WWL) ophthalmology department has encouraged residents of the area to be wary of vision problems ahead of National Eye Health Week.

The department will be working with charities and organisations such as Macular Society, Galloway Local Society for the Blind, and Wigan & Leigh District Society for the Blind to host several information stands during September 23-29 to raise awareness of better eye health.

WWL’s advanced orthoptist and lead for Low Vision Service Kate Witkiss said: ‘Even if you think your vision is fine, having regular eye tests – every two years, unless you’re advised otherwise – can help find any issues, like glaucoma, before they worsen. Along with our partners, we’re here to support everyone – and there’s so much we can do to help prevent eye-related conditions.’
