Eye hospital group Optegra has introduced images to assist patients in choosing the correct cataract surgery to suit them.
The images demonstrate the difference in vision before and after specific procedures, including monofocal standard cataract surgery compared to multifocal refractive cataract surgery.
Optegra highlighted its research from 2020, which found 62% of those over 50 were unaware of different types of cataract operations, despite one in three over 65s suffering from the eye condition.
Mr Shafiq Rehman, consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Optegra, said: ‘It is all about patient choice. Of course, individuals can only have cataract surgery once and so we believe every patient should be aware of all the options – and especially around the advanced intraocular lens implant options which can be used instead of a standard lens to improve your vision every day for the rest of your life.’
