Optegra has had approval of an amended version of its Clarivu advertisement that had been found to be misleading by the ASA

ruth-page-bannerOptegra has had approval of an amended version of its Clarivu advertisement that had been found to be misleading by the ASA (News 14.02.14).

The new advertisement, featuring TV presenter Ruth Langsford, received ASA and industry approval and has been broadcast on ITV since January 27. The company stated: ‘The advert features Ruth Langsford’s personal experience as a patient. Like the vast majority of our Clarivu patients, Ruth achieved 20/20 vision after the Clarivu procedure, and is delighted to be free of glasses. The procedure is not suitable for everyone and will depend on the individual patient’s vision and lifestyle needs.’

An eye specialist had challenged whether the previous version misleadingly implied those undergoing the procedure would no longer require glasses or contact lenses for near or distance vision.

The company added: ‘Optegra has a rigorous clinical evaluation and consenting process with all patients carried out by our expert ophthalmic surgeons. All risks and benefits associated with all eye surgery are made clear at the point of consultation ahead of consent.’
