
Lynne Fernandes and Lorraine Richmond
Optical assistant Lorraine Richmond has retired after working at the same company for 46 years, starting as a receptionist in 1978. Richmond started work at Roger Owen Opticians in Bristol and eventually expanded her skillset to become an optical assistant when the practice became Lynne Fernandes Optometrists.
Richmond told Optician she loved using all the equipment and technology to help patients. ‘In my first 30 years it was rare to see any new equipment. Now, I see new equipment arriving every year. I was “just a receptionist” before. I ended up dispensing glasses and doing tests using a VR headset, scanning eyes and taking photos. I love all the new tech.
