A free eye test campaign has been launched by Specsavers. The offer, available until September 28 2013, cannot be used by patients already entitled to NHS sight tests or used with any other Specsavers vouchers. In 2010 (News 12.03.10), Specsavers said it would not be affected by a similar free eye test promotion offered by supermarket Tesco, as its core market already qualified for free eye examinations and vouchers under the NHS.
Dispensing optician Clare Hayes has been appointed to the GOC’s investigation committee, which analyses allegations made towards registrants and decides on whether further action is required. Hayes teaches and assesses optometry undergraduates in contact lens practice and dispensing at Aston University and is also a practical examiner for ABDO. Gareth Hadley, GOC chair, said she would bring skills and experience to make a valuable contribution.
