Recent changes to the NHS structure for enhanced care have prompted Optician to commission an important piece of research into the profession’s awareness and attitudes towards community eye services. Practitioners can take part in the survey at http://goo.gl/cF8pJ. The results of the survey will be published in a forthcoming issue of Optician.

An annual performance review of UK regulators by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) has recognised the GOC as an ‘effective regulator.’ The GOC said the PSA’s review found that the regulator now met all 24 of its prescribed standards, following improvements in the handling of fitness to practise cases over the course of the last year. It added that its CET scheme was highlighted by the PSA, which described it as ‘proportionate’ and said the implementation of peer review was useful for practitioners who worked alone or in small numbers.
