Eye health

A grant worth £450,000 has been awarded to the College of Optometrists to investigate the prevalence of visual impairment in people with dementia. The fund has been provided by health body the National Institute for Health Research Health Services and Delivery Research as part of a wider project testing the eyes of 750 patients with dementia. 'Too often the link between dementia and eye health is not understood,' said College director of research Mike Bowen.

Moorfields Eye Charity has appealed for cyclists to take on a modified version of the London 2012 Olympic Road Race. It has secured places for the RideLondon100 event on August 4, which is expected to attract 20,000 amateur cyclists. The event starts in the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, follows closed roads through the capital onto Surrey's roads, before finishing back in central London. To take part contact 020 7566 2565.
