A High Court ruling has confirmed that the removal of low value consignment relief (LVCR) on products from the Channel Islands such as contact lenses is lawful. The tax loophole is due to be scrapped by the UK government from April 1 in a move designed to protect small and medium sized businesses from unfair competition.

Newly formed i2eye Diagnostics has released its visual field analyser for patient groups whose visual field was previously impossible to test, including young children and vulnerable adults. It uses technology, known as SVOP (saccadic vector optokinetic perimetry), which was said to harness the patient's natural reactions to movement and light to analyse their visual field without them needing to keep still, understand the test or give feedback to the tester. A trial of the analyser was published late last year (Optician 16.12.11).
