Replay Learning plans to run an Eyecare 3000 event in London at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on November 25. The event will feature an exhibition with a combination of free lectures and paid for workshops.

A CET seminar called London 2012 Education Destination has been scheduled by the Association of Optometrists in partnership with SECO International. It will be the first CET event at the AOP's new central London education facility. The event, on April 29 and 30, will include sessions on therapeutics, prescribing rights and the contrasts between UK and US patient care pathways.

Members of the British Contact Lens Association have been granted more time to apply for 2012 fellowship of the organisation. The deadline for applications has been extended to April 30. Since the scheme was launched in 2006, a total of 133 professionals have become BCLA fellows.

An alleged fraud case involving two staff members at the New Global Vision practice in Hastings has been further deferred until June. Dispensing optician Iqbal Nabi and ophthalmic medical practitioner Dr Helen James face charges relating to fraudulent NHS-funded sight tests (News 08.04.11). Nabi pleaded not guilty in July last year while Dr James has pleaded guilty. The trial had been rescheduled for last week, but a pre-trial hearing will now be held at Lewes Crown Court on May 18 with a trial likely the following month.

Eye care professionals gathered for Excellence in Ophthalmology in London last week. The new congress was attended by around 250 consultant ophthalmologists, nurses, optometrists, retinal screeners, AMD co-ordinators and business managers. Workshops were held on subjects including challenges faced in providing ophthalmic care and how the role of ECPs is changing.
