Mido chiefs claim the date changes to Mido and Silmo will cause other exhibitions to change their schedules as the world trade show calendar harmonises.
Heralding Mido 2009 as a success, the show's organisers claimed most exhibitors were happy with the 'revolutionary change of dates'. Attributing the decline in attendance to the difficult economic situation, they also acknowledged how the proximity of Mido's new dates to other international optical exhibitions had affected their show.
In a statement to Optician, the organisers claimed the calendar congestion was only temporary 'as most international shows did not have the time to modify their calendar in 2009, but they will do it in time for 2010'. The Eastern European MSOO exhibition in Moscow was alleged to have had a big impact on Mido's visitor numbers in 2009 as it took place at the same time. In 2010 it will take place in February, the month before Mido.
