The founders of Light for Life, Beryl and David Bennett, are pictured with Optisoft training consultant Adam Brown on a recent visit to the company's York offices for IT training, having worked with the developers to adapt the optical practice management system for their screening work.

David Bennett, who set up the charity on retiring from the ambulance service, said: 'Optisoft has listened to what we've said and been excellent in adapting its software to our needs and then training us to use it.

We have just returned from a really successful trip to Romania and the new system was beyond our expectations.' Data for the next optometry team's visit in September has been input, with 60 people out of 200 patients needing to be seen by the team. One person to benefit from the charity's work was a patient who 15 years ago had a prescription of -14.00D, which rose to -22.00D, and has now undergone surgery to implant multifocal lenses.
