Optometrist Bob Halsey has completed a gruelling canoe trail across the Scottish Highlands, raising over £9,200 for both the SMA Trust and Rainbows Hospice for children and young people.

Halsey, practice partner at Wellingborough-based Halsey Opticians tackled the 60-mile trail through Loch Lochy, Loch Ness and River Ness. He was joined by nine lifelong friends in memory of Layla Violet, the granddaughter of Bob’s friend Steve, who tragically lost her life to spinal muscular atrophy at only seven months old.

Halsey said: ‘It was extremely challenging at times, especially on Loch Ness. We were lucky to have the weather on our side throughout the journey and it was a massive relief to reach the finish line. It was a tough but incredible experience and we are delighted to raise funds for these amazing charities.’
