Optometrist Anna Turvey has been flying the flag for optics at the Commonwealth Games after making the Scottish cycling team for the event in Glasgow.

Last week she competed in the Women’s 3,000m Individual Pursuit, where she set a new Scottish record in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome at one point but eventually finished outside the medals in twelfth place.

Team mate Katie Archibald later re-broke the record while England’s Joanna Rowsell took the gold medal.

Turvey, who practises in Newcastle, later Tweeted from Loch Lomond where she was recovering in preparation for this week’s Road Time Trial event.
