A number of optometry schools in the UK and Ireland have increased their 2015 undergraduate student intake, research by Optician has found.

City University London has increased its 2015 intake by 18 per cent, with the number of students enrolled on the course totalling 127, compared with 107 in 2014.

A 17 per cent increase was also reported at Glasgow Caledonian University, with first-year numbers now totalling 73.

Similarly, the number grew at the University of Aston, which has increased by 14 per cent to 151, compared with 132 in 2014. Meanwhile, the University of Plymouth, whose first cohort of optometry graduates left last year, has taken its first-year intake up to 59, from 36 last year.
