Optometry Wales provides training update

Optometry Wales has issued an update stating that all eye care professionals providing NHS optometry services in Wales must complete mandatory training accredited for Eye Health Examination Wales (EHEW) services due to a new contract.

The new optometry contract will enforce new regulations, which come into effect in October 2023, and require practitioners to have completed the training outlined.

This included online training; MCQ exams; booking a virtual session; attending two in-person sessions for ocular foreign body and MECS OSCEs. It advised to allow up to six week for completion.

Book sessions through HEIW.Optometry@wales.nhs.uk.
