Optos bullish as profits rise

Optos has reported strong preliminary results for the year ending September 30 2008, with 16 per cent growth in revenue to $100.8m and a 22 per cent rise in operating profit before share-based payments to $12m.

The medical retinal imaging company reported that its installed base of medical devices grew by 18 per cent to 3,983 worldwide for the full year. Ninety-one per cent of the revenue was generated through pay-per-patient customer contracts.

Optos also reported growth of 61 per cent in European revenues and said it had successfully expanded into France, Spain and Norway.

Chief executive officer Roy Davis said: ‘I can report that the underlying business is strong. Despite challenging economic times, we can look ahead with a good degree of confidence.’
