Ortho-keratology lenses may provide a cure to child-onset myopia according to new research findings.

The study into the 'stabilisation of myopia by accelerated reshaping technique', funded by the Eye Vision Institute, is a five-year longitudinal study currently being conducted in Chicago. For the research a treatment group of 172 patients are wearing Euclid Systems' Emerald Overnight Contact Lens, marketed in the UK as i-GO OVC, while a control group of 110 patients are wearing Bausch & Lomb silicone hydrogel soft lenses.

Findings from the first year results showed no overall change in the treatment group, but a mean myopia increase of 0.40D in the control group.
