Brand posts promotional pictures of thin models described by critics as ‘emaciated’

Victoria Beckham Eyewear has come in for fierce criticism, the likes Piers Morgan are outraged after the brand posted promotional pictures of thin models that Morgan described as ‘emaciated’.

Beckham posted the photos from the campaign on social media with the caption: ‘Back to work! Start the year with new frames from the Spring Summer 2018 #VBEyewear collection inspired by 1970s retro classics and updated for a feathery-light, fresh and modern look. Available at victoriabeckham.com and 36 Dover Street, London, now.’

Writing for the Mail Online, Morgan said he was rendered dumbstruck in horror at the sight of the shockingly underweight model Victoria Beckham had chosen for the photos. ‘Frankly, the model, a 29-year-old Lithuanian woman named Giedre Dukauskaite, looked ill. She wasn’t just slim, or “skinny” – she was emaciated.’

Beckham’s social media followers were furious at the designer, who joined a campaign run by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2010 that focused on designers pledging to ban skeletal models from their shows.

‘This is supposed to promote eyewear! You’ve lost me,’ said one Instagram user. ‘All this is promoting is a malnourished model with oversized clothes hanging off her. This a disgraceful image to demonstrate to young women what is fashion and how girls/women should look #neverbuying victoriabeckham again.’

Victoria Beckham Eyewear did not respond to Optician’s request for comment.
