Nearly 1,000 students interact with Specsavers during the summer and pre-reg season

More than 550 optometry students have completed a month-long summer placement with Specsavers which gives them experience of all aspects of optical practice before they embark on their final year of studies.

During the summer 400 optometry graduates have also been getting ready to embark on their pre-registration year with the multiple. Each summer placement featured six modules, covering practice areas such as paediatrics, contact lenses and pre-screening.

The students also gained experience by shadowing eye examinations, carrying out dispensing tasks and using the group’s tablet-based dispensing technology, spending time in the lab and in retail.

Specsavers' head of graduate recruitment and development Louise Iredale said: ‘It’s been a pleasure to welcome all our students to the Specsavers family and very much hope they enjoy their time with us. These are the next generation of optometrists and we are committed to investing in their future with these great opportunities.’
