Variable focus eyewear firm Adlens has opened a new manufacturing facility in Oxford to lead production of its new Focuss variable progressive spectacles destined for the US.

An event was held to mark the launch of the new Variable Power Optics Centre at Oxford Business Centre last week.

The company announced at Vision Expo West last month that US multiple LensCrafters would be first to trial the Focuss eyewear, which incorporates variable near, intermediate and distance vision with a shared single vision lens. Users turn a stepped dial on the inside of the temple to change the power.

‘Adlens was founded in 2005 in Oxford and we are pleased to continue tapping into the UK talent pool and supply chain to design and manufacture a game-changing product like Adlens Focuss,’ said Michael Ferrara, CEO and executive chairman of Adlens.

‘While we are celebrating this milestone today in a community deeply connected to our roots, the evolution of our eyewear technology will have significant impact on the lives of many who wear progressives worldwide.’

Focuss is to be made available in three styles, each with a choice of six finishes and colours, a company statement added.

Adlens has also announced partnerships with Brazilian and Portuguese eyewear distributors for its Fluid-Injection line, The John Lennon Collection, Emergensee and Adlens Adjustables in the past month.

‘As the host nation for the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games the eyes of the world will be trained on Brazil over the coming years,’ added Ferrara.
