Specsavers’ Professional Advancement Conference attracts 2,000 delegates

More than 2,000 optical and audiology experts met at Birmingham’s ICC this month for Specsavers’ Professional Advancement Conference (PAC).

Attendees could earn up to 21 CET points across the course of the day, during which ophthalmology partner Newmedica gave presentations on topics including ocular surface disease and post-surgical glaucoma complications.

Specsavers’ two OCT suppliers – Nidek and Heidelberg Engineering – were also present to provide hands-on experience of their equipment in a series of drop-in sessions.

Specsavers clinical director Giles Edmonds said: ‘What we’ve encouraged today is individual interactions – whether that be exchanging best practice with colleagues, meeting suppliers or discussing how to develop yourself professionally.’

Organisations such as the College of Optometrists, the BCLA and RNIB were also in attendance to deliver talks of topics including dry eye management, specialist lens fitting and binocular vision abnormalities.
