Specsavers announces further details about its upcoming PAC conference

Specsavers has announced further details about its upcoming PAC conference on October 8.

This year marked the first Professional Advancement Conference (PAC) to incorporate the multiple’s partnership with ophthalmology provider Newmedica, which Specsavers invested in last year.

Lectures and discussion workshops would look to ‘close the gap between optometry and ophthalmology in the community’, a statement said.

Held at Birmingham’s ICC, the event was open to all UK optical professionals for the second year in a row.

Paul Morris, Specsavers director of professional advancement, said: ‘This year we are continuing the tradition of having great speakers at the PAC and bringing in the clinical directors from our partner organisation Newmedica.

‘Our ophthalmology colleagues will help us to deliver a full programme of ophthalmological insight and expertise, from glaucoma to cataracts to ocular surface disease.’

Ophthalmologists and Newmedica directors Jeremy Diamond, Tim Manners and Nigel Kirkpatrick will be speaking at the conference. They will lecture on post-surgical glaucoma complications, optic disc analysis and post-surgery cataract patient follow-up. There will also be a lecture from consultant ophthalmologist Ian Comaish’s on ocular surface disease.

A significant focus was also to be placed on optical coherence tomography (OCT) at the PAC, ahead of the company’s national rollout, it said.
