Parents encouraged to get kids’ eyes checked

Parents were being encouraged to get their children’s eyes examined before starting school in September by the charity Eye Health UK following findings in a new report.

The report, titled Our children’s health, revealed that 70% of parents don’t take their children for a sight test ahead of starting school, which the charity said could disadvantage them in the classroom.

‘One in five children in the UK has an undiagnosed vision problem that will hinder their learning and development. It’s often difficult for parents, carers or teachers to recognise when a child might be struggling with their eyesight,’ said David Cartwright, optometrist and chair of Eye Health UK.
