Oban-based optometrist Dr Sudi Patel has been appointed visiting professor at the division of ophthalmology, University Miguel Hernandez and Institute of Ophthalmology in Alicante, Spain.
This is the first appointment by the division of a UK optometrist, and Dr Patel will be helping to plan new avenues of research involving Lasik, wound healing, dry-eye syndromes and presbyopia. Dr Patel is currently director of an independent primary care research facility, West Coast Eye Research. He was formerly senior lecturer in vision sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University and head of optometry at Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre.
