An article by LOCSU managing director Katrina Venerus in last week's Health Service Journal urged commissioners to recognise the benefits of community based eye care pathways and praised the benefits of some of the enhanced services supported by LOCs across England.
Venerus highlighted pathways in Sheffield, Stockport and East Riding in Yorkshire to demonstrate the benefits of community optometrists and opticians working together with local commissioners to design and add value to local eye health schemes.
'With more community-based eye health pathways being developed across England, more and more commissioners are recognising that this model of eye care can save commissioners significant amounts of money,' said Venerus in the article, part of LOCSU's work in raising awareness of the pathways among national and local commissioners and the NHS.
