Actress Patsy Kensit was named Sunglass Wearer of the Year 2002 at this year's Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards.
Ms Kensit, who is known for her roles in Absolute Beginners and Lethal Weapon 2, said: 'Of all the accessories you can wear, sunglasses have got to be the best. They look fantastic and protect you from the UV rays that can damage your eyes and result in premature ageing.'
Presenter on ITV's This Morning show Fern Britton and presenter and journalist Kate Thornton won Spectacle Wearer of the Year. Howard Brown, the man from the Halifax advertisement, won the 'spectically challenged' award and pop star Anastacia received a special award for 'always looking amazing in specs'.
The awards, organised annually by the Eyecare Trust and held this week in London, were sponsored by Hoya Lens.
Managing director Steve Ellis said: 'We are delighted to be involved in Spectacle Wearer of the Year 2002. It's a great event that helps celebrities make an even stronger fashion statement with their specs and sunglasses. We want to encourage more people Ð especially youngsters Ð to think about taking care of their sight.'
