Optometrists in parts of the South-East will be able to provide enhanced or extended eye tests of 45 minutes to adults with learning disabilities under a community-based enhanced primary care optometry service for adults launched by Sutton and Merton PCT.
The initiative, developed with the charity SeeAbility, seeks to ensure that adults with learning disabilities can receive on-going access to eye care servicestailored to their individual needs. Optometrists accredited by the scheme will be able to perform the enhanced eyetests, while patients will be able to take advantage of the service if they possess an 'I Count' card and are registered on the 'I Count' scheme which recognises people as having a learning disability.
