MP Charles Kennedy has not given his support to a campaign run by the internet firm Metsuki according to the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).
The firm had alleged that Kennedy, following a meeting with Ewan McFarlane, managing director of Metsuki's parent company One Vision Direct, said he was happy to back the 'Give me my pupillary distance campaign', (News 19.3.10).
However, after contacting Kennedy, ABDO has reported that he is 'definitely not actively campaigning for a change in the regulations and that he and the Liberal Democrat Party remain fully committed to professional eye care across the board'. The Association added: 'Mr Kennedy and his party are certainly not campaigning for PDs to be part of GOS prescriptions to facilitate internet purchase of spectacles.'
