A former winner of the World Snooker Championships has teamed up with the community optical practice that corrected his vision at the beginning of his career.

Peter Ebdon, who won the World Championship at The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield in 2002, had suffered from myopia and colour blindness when optometrist Daryl Halsey (pictured left) fitted the snooker star with contact lenses.

Coinciding with this year’s World Championships, he returned to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire-based Halsey Opticians to highlight the importance of regular eye exams.

He said: ‘I was struggling to see the whole of the table and I found it awkward playing in glasses, until the practice gave me contact lenses. For the first time I could see the whole table clearly and judge angles and distances better than ever, which hugely improved my performance levels.’
