Hot on the heels of the release of its first Best Under the Sun Heritage Collection last autumn, Polaroid has released another line of retro-influenced sunglasses.
The new collection comprises 10 sunglass styles, each available in two colours and influenced by points in time over the company's 75-year history. The Seventy-five men's sunglass is described as the 'highlight of the new collection.' The instantly recognisable aviator silhouette (1) has been updated for the 21st century with new materials and the manufacturer's premium polarised UltraSight lenses - with an AR coating on the rear of the lens and mirroring on the front. Branding is subtle, with a Polaroid logo on the lens and temples. Also from the 1970s is the women's Sophia (2). The model has an on-trend oversized profile with rounded lens shape.
The Jive women's frame (3) has gone further back in time to the 1950s, with a distinctive cat's eye shape mixed with a frosted interior to add modernity. Also for women, the Wave sunglass (4) sports a modified Wayfarer silhouette and waved line detailing on the brows.
Polaroid said it supported the new range with a variety of POS materials, including merchandise displays and promotional literature. The manufacturer also released details of its 2013 collection - which will feature designs submitted by visitors to the Polaroid website. Each frame will carry the winning designer's name and the victor will receive royalties from frame sales.
