PPG Industries launched Tribrid lenses at the recent Silmo optical fair in Paris. The lenses were developed using what was claimed to be a unique hybrid approach, which merged the elements of Trivex material with traditional high-index lens chemistries.
The new lens offers an Abbe rating of 41, density of just 1.23g/cm and a refractive index of 1.6. The manufacturer claimed the lens was able to withstand 160 times the energy of the FDA drop ball test.
PPG said the Tribrid lens was suited to patients with higher prescriptions in the ± 3.00D to ±7.00D range, and provided thinness and durability.
