Optician takes a look at some of the technological advances set to be showcased at Optrafair 2013

Independent prescribing rights for an increasing number of practitioners is leading to advanced technology differentiating practices and set to be a major talking point at Optrafair 2013, according to show organisers.

A number of instrument manufacturers have already committed to the April 2013 exhibition in the hope that increased clinical duties for optometrists will translate to heightened interest in screening technology.

Andy Yorke, Topcon director of UK operations, said: 'Technological innovations such as optical coherence tomography, or OCT, will become commonplace in clinical optometry practices and the application of the software within such instruments will be of significant clinical importance in detecting and monitoring eye disease.
